What is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT), is a unique cosmetic procedure that reduces acne, scarring, dark spots, and wrinkles. Using a small device equipped with dozens of incredibly thin needles, your technician makes microscopic pricks in your skin. These tiny punctures heal quickly, stimulating collagen, elastin, and new skin tissue production to tighten and improve the texture of your skin.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT?
Microneedling facials are great for a large number of skin conditions and beauty concerns. This cosmetic procedure is able to treat the signs of aging and can be applied to many skincare issues.
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
- Improves acne and acne scarring
- Dark spots (age spots, sun spots, hyperpigmentation)
- Shrinks Enlarged pores
- Tightens Sagging skin
- Smooths Uneven skin or ruddy-looking complexion
- Reduces Visibility of Stretch marks
By encouraging the body to produce new tissue and collagen, microneedling is able to smooth, tighten, and completely transform your skin. Depending on the beauty concerns you are dealing with and the severity of your skin issues, you may need a few microneedling facial sessions to achieve your desired results.
What to Avoid Before a Microneedling Facial
- Avoid applying any topical treatments that may increase the sensitivity of your skin at least a week before your procedure. This includes exfoliants, retinoids, and topical antibiotics.
- Do not wax or use hair removal creams for 5-7 days prior, and avoid shaving the day of your procedure to prevent irritation.
- Do not take anti-inflammatory medication for at least 3 days before your procedure, as this could interfere with the effectiveness of your microneedling procedure.
- Keep your skin out of the sun and avoid laser treatments for two weeks leading up to your appointment.
All of these precautions are necessary to ensure that the microneedling facial is effective and that you don’t experience any unnecessary discomfort during your cosmetic procedure. If you follow these guidelines and speak with your aesthetic consultant about taking any additional precautions, your microneedling treatment will be relatively painless and you’ll achieve results with minimal downtime.
WHAT TO EXPECT: OUR MICRONEEDLING PROCESS
On the day of your microneedling procedure, you should come in with a clean face, free of any makeup or moisturizers. Your practitioner will disinfect your skin with a mild cleanser and apply a topical numbing cream to your skin to prevent discomfort.
Once you begin to feel the effects of the numbing cream, they will then glide a pen-like device equipped with thin needles across your skin to create microscopic incisions. While the procedure itself is relatively painless thanks to the topical numbing agent, it may feel as if you’ve been sunburned immediately after your procedure.
Your practitioner will apply a gentle cooling serum to promote skin healing, and you’ll be able to leave the office once you are finished. In total, your microneedling session should take no longer than an hour.
PRFM injection (Platelet-Rich Plasma) combines the healing effects of platelet therapy with dermal fillers to achieve smooth, natural-looking results in our patients. During PRP, a small amount of blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge to extract platelet-rich fibrin (PRF). PRF has a unique ability to restore cells and trigger collagen and elastin production to encourage your skin to repair itself.
When combined with dermal fillers, PRP injection significantly volumizes and lifts your skin while improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. This aesthetic treatment is recommended for patients with frown lines, lip lines, sagging cheeks, sun damage, acne scarring, crepey skin, and more.
MICRONEEDLING AFTERCARE
Immediately after your microneedling facial, you will leave Allure Laser Medispa’s office with reddened and sensitive skin. This will subside in a couple of days, but there are some precautions you should take to ensure that you heal properly.
Cleaning and Skin Care
In the weeks following your microneedling treatment, you should keep your skin clean using a mild, non-chemical cleanser. Use a mild serum to keep your skin hydrated, and continually apply broad-spectrum sunscreen without harsh chemicals. You can wear makeup the day after your procedure but try to keep it light and make sure you thoroughly clean your skin each night.
What to Avoid
You should avoid using harsh chemicals and acids, such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and retinol, for a few weeks after microneedling. You should also avoid exfoliating scrubs or anything that is going to further damage your skin as it heals following your treatment
